D-rings
D-rings are little helpers with a big impact: as half rings, they connect straps to pockets, serve as attachment points for belts or add visual accents to self-sewn accessories. At your Stoffschwester you will find D-rings in various sizes and surfaces, suitable for many sewing projects.
What are D-rings suitable for?
D-rings are mainly used in bag making - for adjustable straps, handle attachments or as a connecting element between webbing and bags. They are also suitable for belts, rucksack straps, dog leads or handicrafts where a stable, flat eyelet is required. Choose the right size for your webbing depending on the opening width (e.g. 30 mm or 40 mm).
Processing tips
When inserting D-rings, it is important that the webbing width matches the inner width of the ring. This allows the strap to be threaded cleanly and retains its freedom of movement. For a secure fastening, you can place the end of the strap around the straight side of the D-ring, fold it in and secure it with a sturdy sewing (box or zigzag stitch). For heavy or stressed projects, add rivets or additional reinforcement made of faux leather or interlining to the sewing.
- Select the appropriate width: Strap width ≈ Inner width of the D-ring
- Type of sewing: box stitch, zigzag or multiple straight stitching
- Tools: strong sewing machine with denim or leather needle, hand sewing or riveting if necessary
- Note the look: matt or glossy surfaces influence the design
What makes D-rings special is their combination of functionality and appearance: metallic surfaces such as silver, gold, anthracite or black coatings can be harmoniously integrated into your bag project and provide support without being bulky. If you are unsure which size or finish is right for you, your Stoffschwester will be happy to help you choose - we provide practical advice and show you what is important when sewing and reinforcing.
With the right D-rings, you can create clean, strong connections and your bag projects will look professional down to the last detail. Have fun browsing and sewing!
