Seraflex thread
Seraflex thread is a highly elastic sewing thread developed for all stretchy fabrics. Whether you are sewing garments made from jersey, sweatshirt fabric or knitwear or using elastic rib knits and inserts: this elastic thread increases the flexibility of your sewing and makes straight stitching in particular much more stretchy.
What is the stretch sewing thread suitable for?
The thread is particularly suitable for projects with stretch fabrics where the seam stretch has to keep up with the material. Typical applications include leisure and sportswear, children's and baby clothing, underwear and all sewing that is frequently stretched. As a stretch thread, it ensures that sewing seams do not tear or constrict uncomfortably.
How to process?
- Always work with a suitable needle (e.g. jersey or stretch needle, size 70-90 depending on the fabric).
- Test the needle size, stitch length and thread tension on a scrap piece of fabric before sewing the main project.
- Zigzag or stretch stitches are suitable for visible stretch areas; the straight stitch becomes more stretchy due to the thread itself.
- The thread adapts well to overlocker or coverstitch machines - also sew samples beforehand.
What makes this thread special?
The thread impresses with its excellent stretchy properties, which make sewing smoother and more durable. Compared to conventional polyester threads, the seam elasticity can increase significantly, which quickly pays off in tight-fitting or heavily stressed sewing. In addition, the color selection is often vibrant, allowing you to create matching contrasts or tone-on-tone finishes.
Tips for good results: Sew at a steady pace, make sure the fabric feeds evenly and use a top feed foot or non-stretch foot if necessary. Test sewing helps to find the ideal combination of needle, stitch and tension.
