Iron-on appliqués and iron-on motifs are the practical solution for customizing clothing, bags or textiles or concealing small holes and stains. At your Stoffschwester, we offer a versatile selection of appliqués that are easy to apply and add creative accents.

What are iron-on appliqués and iron-on motifs suitable for?

Whether you want to spice up children's clothing, embellish a plain shirt or make a bag more personal - iron-on motifs work on many fabrics. They are also a sustainable alternative for repairing items of clothing instead of throwing them away. They are popular for gift ideas, upcycling projects and as a quick eye-catcher on self-sewn pieces.

How are iron-ons made?

Most iron-on transfers have a thermoadhesive backing and can be fixed with a hot iron. Pay attention to the care instructions for the respective motif and the backing fabric: For delicate materials, we recommend using a cloth between the iron and the motif or fixing with a hand stitch for additional security. For heavy-duty use, such as children's clothing, we recommend sewing along the edge after ironing to increase durability and wash resistance.

Tips from the seamstress

  • Test briefly on a sample fabric before attaching to the garment.
  • Position the motif, cover with baking paper and work with pressure instead of pulling back and forth quickly.
  • Allow to cool completely after ironing - this improves the hold.
  • If washing frequently, topstitch close to the edge with the sewing machine.

Iron-ons and iron-on motifs are a quick, creative way to add personality to sewing projects. Browse through your Die Stoffschwester and be inspired by the possibilities - from subtle embellishments to cheeky children's designs, there is something for everyone.
