Lace & borders
Lace & trims add structure, transparency and feminine details to clothing, accessories and underwear. In this category, you will find stretch lace trims and narrow lace ribbons that are particularly suitable for stretchy fabrics, edges and decorative inserts. Whether as hems, sleeve cuffs, underwear edges or as decorative stripes on shirts and dresses - trims set specific accents.
What are lace, lace trims and borders suitable for?
Lace and trims are versatile: they enhance jersey edges without being bulky, create soft finishes on underwear and lingerie and add romantic details to light summer fabrics such as viscose or cotton. Stretch lace edgings are particularly practical for rib knits and waist trims because they stretch with the garment and offer comfort.
Processing tips for hobby sewers
- Sewing: Stretch or zigzag seams are good for attaching stretch lace; a narrow decorative seam is suitable for very fine lace.
- Needles: Use a jersey or stretch needle when sewing the lace to stretchy fabrics.
- Preparation: In the case of delicate braids, use a tester to check how the sewing behaves and whether the lace shrinks more or less during washing.
- Ironing: Usually only carefully at a low temperature with a cloth in between so that the fine fibers are not damaged.
- Cutting: Cut borders straight to allow for neat sewing; pay attention to pattern repeat for patterns.
When choosing, pay attention to width, stretch and color: a fine lace border looks delicate at the neck and sleeve edges, wider stretch borders are suitable for waist and leg ends. Combine the color of the trim with your main fabric or deliberately create contrasting accents. If you are unsure, a small sample sewing piece will help.
