Safety material
Safety material includes reflective tapes, iron-on reflective strips and seam sealing tapes that significantly improve visibility and weather protection for sewing projects. Our selection of non-stretchy safety tapes is particularly suitable for rain jackets, softshells, children's clothing, sportswear and workwear as well as bags and backpacks.
What is safety material suitable for?
Reflective tape increases visibility at dusk and in the dark - ideal on sleeves, back sections or as a contrasting decorative strip. Neon-colored safety tapes also ensure better visibility during the day. Seam sealing tapes are used on the inner seams of rainwear and breathable outer fabrics to reliably keep moisture out of the seam area.
What is the best way for amateur seamstresses to use these tapes?
- Iron-on reflective tapes: First test on fabric samples and then iron on with the right temperature and pressure; an iron-on or Teflon backing protects the material.
- Seam-sealing tapes: These are applied over the seams and fixed with heat to seal the seam - ideal for softshell and rain fabrics.
- Fixing by sewing: For added durability, you can attach reflective tape to the edges with a fine zigzag or straight stitch.
What makes these products special?
Non-stretchy safety tapes retain their shape, rub less and can be positioned precisely. Reflective tapes reflect light from headlights and therefore provide simple, effective protection for pedestrians, cyclists and children. Sealing tapes prevent water from penetrating seams and extend the life of rainwear.
Tips from your Stoffschwester: Always follow the processing instructions for the material, test on a piece of fabric before fixing and sew on if necessary. This way you combine protection and a clean finish. Browse through the selection, compare widths and colors and find exactly the right safety material for your project.
