Knit & jacquard
Knit & jacquard are the favorite fabrics for cozy, dimensionally stable and visually interesting sewing projects. Knitted fabrics score with their elasticity and pleasant drape, while jacquard fabrics impress with their knitted-in patterns and texture - both are ideal for clothing and accessories with a feel-good character.
What is it suitable for?
Knitted fabrics are ideal for T-shirts, longsleeves, dresses, cardigans, hoodies, loops and cozy homewear. Jacquard fabrics add decorative patterns and are particularly appealing for sweaters, skirts or cozy home accessories such as cushions. Both types of fabric are versatile: sometimes sporty, sometimes elegant - depending on the weight, stitch pattern and design.
Processing tips for hobby sewers
- Use jersey or stretch needles and a stretchy seam (zigzag, elastic stitch or overlocker) so that the sewing remains stretchy.
- Twin needles or a coverstitch are suitable for neat finishes; alternatively, finish with an overlocker and sewing with a stretch stitch.
- A rolling knife or sharp fabric scissors will help when cutting to size; if necessary, fix with weight instead of pins if the fabric is very soft.
- For delicate stitches, use light Vlieseline or a narrow seam tape to stabilize the shoulders and neckline.
Before sewing, we recommend test sewing on a scrap piece of fabric to adjust the tension, stitch length and needle size. Many knitted fabrics behave slightly differently to woven fabrics when washed - pre-wash briefly and pull into shape before cutting.
