Lace - Tulle - Chiffon
Lace, tulle and chiffon combine a delicate look with a light drape and high impact: whether delicate lace for lace trims, sheer chiffon for flowing backs or sleeves or net and tulle fabrics for volume and transparency. These types of fabric are perfect if you want to add an elegant, dreamy or festive touch to your sewing project.
What are these fabrics suitable for?
Typical applications include bridal and festive wear, airy dresses, tiered and tulle skirts, veils, inserts in blouses and delicate accessories such as loops or back pieces. Net fabrics and mesh are also ideal for decorative layers, petticoat inserts or even for craft and decorative projects. Their transparency and lightness make them particularly suitable for layering and fine details.
Processing tips
Fine fabrics require careful handling: cut with sharp scissors or rotary cutters on a smooth surface, secure with fine pins or basting thread and sew with a fine needle (e.g. 60-80) and thin sewing thread. Hemming techniques such as a rolled hem on the machine or a narrow hand-rolled hem give clean edges. With very fine chiffon, threading with Vlieseline interfacing at the chest or zipper seams helps to give more stability. Always iron carefully at a low temperature using a steam cloth.
