Coverstitch
Coverstitch

Coverstitch is the technique that gives your hems and joining seams a clean, stretchy and professional finish. Whether you are sewing children's clothing, sports and leisure wear or stretchy everyday fabrics, a coverstitch machine will give you stronger, more flexible sewing than a normal household sewing machine.
What is a coverstitch machine suitable for?
Coverstitching is mainly used for hems on stretch fabrics such as jersey, french terry or knitwear. It is also ideal for binding work, connecting seams on rib knits and collars as well as decorative seams that should look like professional ready-to-wear work. In combination with an overlocker, you can achieve perfect results inside and out.
How to process? Practical tips
- Fabric sample: Always test on a piece of fabric first - stitch width, stitch length and thread tension depend on the material.
- Threads & needles: Use high-quality threads and needles for jersey/stretch so that the sewing remains stretch and does not tear.
- Slow speed: Sew more slowly with fine or very stretchy fabrics, adjust several needles or needle pressure if necessary for thicker layers of fabric.
- Prepare neatly: Lightly pre-iron edges if necessary or fix with Wonder Tape to avoid wavy hems.
What makes coverstitch special?
The coverstitch seam combines function and appearance: it stretches with the fabric, lies flat and looks like a professional ready-made seam. For hobby sewers, this means less reworking, longer-lasting results and more design options - from visible decorative seams to invisible, durable joins.
