Flannel
Flannel is a roughened cotton quality that immediately brings to mind feel-good textiles thanks to its soft surface. Cotton flannel and flannel fabrics are particularly popular for clothing and home accessories because they keep you warm, are comfortable against the skin and are easy to care for.
What is flannel suitable for?
The fabric is ideal for shirts, pyjamas, nightwear, children's clothing, baby blankets, plaids and cozy skirts and pants. In home textiles, flannel is a great choice for cushion covers, lightweight bedspreads or as a warm inner layer for blanket projects.
Processing tips for hobby sewers
Be sure to pre-wash before cutting, as cotton flannel can easily shrink during the first wash. Pay attention to the direction of the pile (brushed flannel may have a fiber direction) and cut all pieces uniformly in the direction of the pile. When sewing, flannel fabrics work well with a universal needle and normal sewing thread. Edges can fray a little - overlocker or zigzag stitch will produce clean finishes.
- Practical projects: Shirts, pyjamas, baby clothes, plaids and cozy accessories.
- Care: pre-wash, iron moderately if necessary; follow drying instructions.
- Sewing technique: observe pile direction, neaten edges, double seams for more stability if necessary.
