What is Lycra & Sport suitable for?
Whether leggings, sports tops, swimsuits or sleeveless tops: sports stretch is the first choice when garments need to fit tightly without constricting. The good recovery ensures that sewing lasts longer and the items retain their shape. For hobby sewers, this means a wide range of applications with little effort.
Processing tips for stretch fabrics
- Use a jersey or stretch needle or a circular needle to prevent the fabric from tearing when sewing.
- Sewing techniques: stretch stitches, zigzag or special stretch stitches; a twin needle is suitable for visible seams.
- Overlocker/serger and a presser foot with guide make it easier to work with very stretchy fabrics.
- When cutting, spread out the fabric lying down, do not pull; choose a sewing pattern with a suitable elastic reserve.
