What is patterned jersey suitable for?
It is precisely because jersey is stretchy and supple that it is ideal for close-fitting cuts and comfortable everyday clothing. Processing tips
- Wash cold or at a low temperature before sewing to minimize shrinkage or colour abrasion.
- When cutting to size, it is best to lay flat or work in the fabric fold, using sharp fabric scissors or rotary cutters.
- Use jersey needles/stretch needles and stretchy stitches (zigzag, stretch stitch) or an overlocker/serger for clean sewing.
- For clean hems, use a twin needle or a stretch hem stitch; avoid stretching too much when sewing to prevent seams from curling.
- For thin versions, a light insertion of Vlieseline or seam tape at the shoulders and openings can provide stability.
