When is woven fabric suitable?

Woven fabrics are ideal for blouses, shirts, dresses, skirts, light jackets, children's fashion, bags and patchwork. Lightweight qualities such as voile or batiste are ideal for airy summer pieces, while Oxford cotton or firmer cotton qualities offer stability for shirts and bags. Jelly rolls and fat quarters are practical cuts for quilting and patchwork projects.

Processing & sewing tips

• Recommend pre-washing before cutting to reduce shrinkage and color release.
• Cut with sharp tailor's scissors, pins or fabric clamps; thinner qualities can be processed particularly well with rotary cutters.
• Select suitable needles (e.g. Universal 70-90) and fine threads; use thicker needles for sturdier woven fabrics.
• Clean seam finishes: French sewing, narrow zigzag or overlocker are suitable depending on the fabric weight.
• Gentle ironing at the right temperature brings sewing and shapes into shape.
