Woven viscose
Woven viscose is a pleasantly soft, non-stretchy woven fabric with a beautiful drape - ideal for light summer clothing and elegant blouses. The category includes fine poplin qualities, flowing weaves and blended fabrics with linen or lyocell/tencel, all of which offer different textures and wearing properties.
What is woven viscose suitable for?
- Blouses and shirt blouses: thanks to the fine weave and good drape
- Dresses and tunics: flowing, light and comfortable on the skin
- Skirts and light pants: elegant or casual, depending on the weave
- Accessories: light scarves or linings for summer projects
Processing tips for hobby sewers
A test wash is recommended before cutting, as viscose can shrink easily. Cut along the grain, work with sharp scissors or rotary cutters and, if necessary, fix the sewing pattern with weights, as the fabric can slip a little. Use fine universal or Microtex needles (70-90) and a normal stitch length; for very thin fabrics, sew a little shorter. French seams or a narrow zigzag seam are suitable for sewing, an overlocker smoothes edges cleanly. Use light, iron-on interfacing for collars and facings.
Care & special features
Woven viscose is breathable and absorbs moisture well, feels cool and drapes elegantly. Care: wash gently (30 °C delicates), use a mild detergent, do not bleach and dry gently - preferably lying flat or hanging up. When ironing, use a low to medium temperature and place a cloth in between. Variants with lyocell/tencel may hold their shape better and have a subtle sheen.
